Abstract

With regard to the semantic aspect of language, the division of logical research into three branches (Morris, Carnap) is beginning to be fairly well established. Distinction is made between syntactics, semantics and pragmatics. Syntactics covers the issues resulting from the relationships between expressions; semantics covers the issues resulting from the relationships between expressions and the objects to which they refer; pragmatics covers the issues resulting from the relationship between the users of expressions and the expressions they use. The whole forms semantics in the broader sense of the term, in this case often called semiotics. We shall be interested in the first two branches. We want to show with what they are concerned, in order to promote intellectual contacts between logicians and linguists.
