Critical theory and Nietzsche? Nietzsche, to be sure, would have protested the "ominous "and.""¹ But, suspending "psychological tactfulness' in advance, we will review some aspects of the "theories of science" as presented both by opponents and sometime allies, while yet, as far as possible, keeping the politico-historical associations and resonances relevant to exclusively German discussions in reserve.²
