Abstract

I begin with a confession. Like most confessions it is difficult to make. Moreover, it involves others, and in particular Tris Engelhardt, whom I am honored to call a friend. I am hesitant to cause him embarrassment, but I simply can no longer live with the deception. Tris Engelhardt is not the author of the Second Edition of The Foundations of Bioethics, I am the author of the Second Edition. I confess I think it was a clever idea for me to write the Second Edition and on the whole I am pleased with the execution, but I now see that the truth should prevail. I am, of course, indebted to Tris for his cooperation and I hope I have not damaged his well deserved reputation.
