Reading Engelhardt has been an extensive enterprise. The book completes a project that includes the conference, "Ethics, Medicine and Health Care: An Appraisal of the Thought of H. Tristram Engelhardt, Jr.," held at Youngstown State University on the weekend of September 30, 1995. It is comprised of essays first presented at that conference.¹
