Abstrakt

Whoever comes to Potsdam will inevitably find traces of the Orientalist movement, of which Hermann Grassmann was a part. Frederick the Great furnished Potsdam with different chinoiseries, his nephew FrederickWilliamII built some seemingly Turkish buildings, and his grandson and king during the time of Grassmann, Frederick William IV, was driven by an admiration for India, which even led him to learn Sanskrit [Strohmeier, Knauer and Stás 2007, 5870].
