Abstract

Edgar Rubin conducted research in many different areas of perceptual psychology after becoming professor of psychology at the University of Copenhagen. Most of these are described in considerable detail in the chapter. Rubin's major interest was in descriptive psychology where he aimed for an aspective psychology, a psychology dealing with different aspects or sides of mental experience. Rubin presided over the Tenth International Congress of Psychology in 1932 in Copenhagen. Rubin played an important role in popularizing psychology in Denmark in the 1920s and 1930s. During World War II, Rubin, because of his Jewish background, was forced to escape with his family to Sweden.
