Reply to miss Berry's paper

In her paper, Miss Berry takes Maine de Biran's account of free will as her main topic. However, while we seem to be concerned with a monograph on Biran, her point is that Biran's position somehow stands for a wider philosophical persuasion, viz., that of phenomenology. If this understanding is correct it may be advisable first to look briefly into her criticism of Biran and next into the relevance of this criticism to phenomenology. Finally, we should attend to what amounts to little more than a suggestion on Miss Berry's part as to what is required for a satisfactory account of freedom.
