Abstract
Grünewald’s Geist–Kultur–Gesellschaft crowns the author’s impressive record of scholarly work toward a philosophical foundation of the human sciences over the course of more than three decades. As the title announces, Grünewald understands his contribution as belonging in the tradition of transcendental philosophy, largely represented in the book with frequent references to Kant, Husserl, and the Neo-Kantians. Notwithstanding Grünewald’s masterful command of these sources and the hermeneutical rigor displayed throughout, the book should be read as an original work, drawing critically on existing theories but ultimately articulating an independent standpoint.
