This essay discusses Tagore's deep concern about the search for identity through education and what should be our response to the science-culture of the West—how could local identities be related to global identities? Tagore believed that the dignity of man was of central importance and any compromise on this account will ultimately lead to disaster. His philosophy of education reflects on the aims of human development and the impediments that might stand in the way. His philosophy of education was founded on the concepts of love, creativity and freedom .
