Abstrakt

It is a common observation in methodological writings that a scientist can expend a given amount of intellectual effort in several ways. A scientist's knowledge is said to be abstract or concrete,¹ broad or deep, theoretical or observational, typifying or individualizing, specialistic or universalistic, nomothetic or idiographic, more or less balanced, strong or weak in terms of the total intellectual effort.
