Abstract

Measurement is an emblematic technology: it is ubiquitous, transforms our experience, withdraws into the background, and is noticed primarily when it breaks down. Measurement is not merely one tool among others, belonging only to separate elements such as rulers, scales, and other instruments, but a fluid and correlated network that is smoothly and intimately integrated into the world and its shape. This paper proposes the concept of metroscape to develop and extend Heidegger's concept of Gestell.
